A surfboard is not only a tool for riding waves—it also quietly reflects the maker’s background, the culture of a region, and personal memories.

Surfing has existed in Japan for over half a century. Skills have been passed down through many craftsmen, shaping a unique local culture. Working within that lineage as an outsider naturally raises questions: Where do I stand in this tradition? How might surfers from more established surf cultures perceive the boards I create?

These five boards were shaped during long hours in a dim workshop, while focusing closely on the materials themselves. Using the most fundamental elements—PU foam, fiberglass cloth, and polyester resin—I explored how far expression can be pushed within these basic constraints.

The resin artwork incorporates pigments used in Japanese painting, applying minimal techniques to reconsider the visual and material depth of the surfboard.

Hull-Ex は、ハル特有の“ボトムで走るような滑り出し”と、レールを寝かせたときに生まれる独特の伸びを、より扱いやすい形で引き出すことを目指したモデルです。
7’8” の長さにより、波のエネルギーを素直に受け取り、滑らかに加速していく感覚が強く、フェイスを長く使ったクリーンなラインを描きやすくなっています。

ノーズ〜ミッドは柔らかいエントリーに仕上げ、早い滑り出しと気持ちのいいトリムスピードを確保。
一方でテールには適度な面変化を入れ、方向転換時の“暴れ”を押さえてあるので、ハルに慣れていない方でも安心して踏んでいけるバランスです。

The 7’8” Hull-Ex refines the essence of the displacement hull—soft entry, center lift, and rail-based acceleration—while improving overall stability and usability.
The added length helps the board gather speed smoothly, drawing long, uninterrupted lines across the face.

7’2” の長さによってスピードの伸びと直進安定性が高く、フェイスを大きく使った伸びのあるライン取りが可能。
さらに、ツインフィン構成での製作にも対応しており、より軽快で反応の速い乗り味へシフトすることもできます。

ボトムはナチュラルなVEEと微細な面構成を組み合わせ、スムーズなレールtoレールと、速度を保ったままの方向転換をサポート。

独学でサーフボード制作を学び、削り、作って海に持っていく——
そんな5年間を過ごしてきました。人生の長い夏休みの自由研究の成果をどうにかして
皆様にお見せする（押し付ける）べく初めて展示会を開催してみようと思います。

サーフボードは、サイエンスに基づいた道具であると同時に、緻密な工芸品でもあります。
一見単純に見える構造の中には、流体力学、素材工学、そして職人の感覚が交差しています。
本展は、ブラックボックス化されがちなサーフボードの製法を見つめ直し、その機能や美しさの新たな価値を考察する試みです。
伝統的なハンドシェイプの技法を基盤として、物理的な探求や色彩表現の実験を紹介するとともに、5本の新しいモデルを発表いたします。

展示作品はその場でご購入やオーダーも可能ですが 同時に「博物館」のように誰にでも開かれた空間を目指しています。

Over the past five years, I’ve taught myself the art of surfboard making – learning to shape, build and finally test them in the water. What began as a long and joyful research project has now become something I’m excited to share: my very first exhibition.

Surfboards are both scientific instruments and works of craftsmanship. Within their seemingly simple forms lies an intricate balance of fluid dynamics, materials engineering and the intuition of the shaper.

This exhibition invites you to look inside the often “black-boxed” process of surfboard making. It explores the meeting point between tradition and experimentation: blending time-honored hand-shaping techniques with new inquiries into form, color and function. At its heart are five new models, each representing a step forward in this ongoing exploration.

While the works on display are available for purchase or custom order, the exhibition is also imagined as an “open museum.” Whether you’re passionate about surfboards, curious about surfing or completely new to the subject, I hope you’ll find something here that inspires you.

サーフボードは、サイエンスに基づいた道具であると同時に、緻密な工芸品でもあります。
一見単純に見える構造の中には、流体力学、素材工学、そして職人の感覚が交差しています。
本展は、ブラックボックス化されがちなサーフボードの製法を見つめ直し、その機能や美しさの新たな価値を考察する試みです。
伝統的なハンドシェイプの技法を基盤として、物理的な探求や色彩表現の実験を紹介するとともに、5本の新しいモデルを発表いたします。

展示作品はその場でご購入やオーダーも可能ですが 同時に「博物館」のように誰にでも開かれた空間を目指しています。

Over the past five years, I’ve taught myself the art of surfboard making – learning to shape, build and finally test them in the water. What began as a long and joyful research project has now become something I’m excited to share: my very first exhibition.

Surfboards are both scientific instruments and works of craftsmanship. Within their seemingly simple forms lies an intricate balance of fluid dynamics, materials engineering and the intuition of the shaper.

This exhibition invites you to look inside the often “black-boxed” process of surfboard making. It explores the meeting point between tradition and experimentation: blending time-honored hand-shaping techniques with new inquiries into form, color and function. At its heart are five new models, each representing a step forward in this ongoing exploration.

While the works on display are available for purchase or custom order, the exhibition is also imagined as an “open museum.” Whether you’re passionate about surfboards, curious about surfing or completely new to the subject, I hope you’ll find something here that inspires you.
